Collective Energy is a specialist division within Collective Architecture, established in 2020, to offer key services and advice around how to make buildings, places, processes and communities more sustainable and effective.
We work with clients, consultants and collaborators to develop their projects, methods and ideas to be climate neutral, socially sustainable and holistic. This includes meeting the necessary drive to Net Zero Carbon, developing regenerative and circular models, reducing energy demands, taking a fabric first approach and closing the performance gap.

Passivhaus Design Services:
Fully accredited Passivhaus design services for all building types, scales and locations.
Circular Economy Consultancy:
Holistic consultancy services on the benefits and opportunities of the circular economy in construction.
Building Performance Services:
Range of specialist services and strategies to determine and assess building/site performance and compliance for new and existing.
The urgency with which the construction industry – and society at large - must address the climate emergency and wider sustainability is critical. At Collective Energy we apply skill, ingenuity and creativity to meet this need.
The Collective Energy team works across Scotland on a wide variety of projects, from small bespoke project installations to large scale regenerations. They have specialist skills in several areas, most notably Passivhaus design Circular Economy Consultancy and Building Performance.
Carl Baker
Architect | Passivhaus Designer
Carls joined Collective Architecture in 2018, having worked at 7N on the prestigious Knab Masterplan in Lerwick. He has continued developing these strategic skills to think about sustainability more holistically on all his projects. He has recently qualified as a Passivhaus Designer and is driven to help clients get as close to net zero as possible.
Rupert Daly
Architect | Passivhaus Designer
Rupert
has been instrumental in developing and leading Collective Energy’s
work and energy consultancy services. He has been a qualified passivhaus
designer since 2013 and leads the Collective Energy team in the field
of Passivhaus design and Building Performance.
Cathy Houston
Architect | Post Graduate Certificate Advanced Sustainable Design.
Cathy joined Collective Architecture in 2001 during its formative years and has been the lead architect on a variety of regeneration projects incorporating housing, retail, office, community facilities and public realm. Cathy is sustainability driven, and always seeks to minimise ecological impact. She has excellent technical knowledge and achieved a Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Sustainable Design from University of Edinburgh.
David Perez
Architectural Technologist | Passivhaus Designer
David’s concern for the environment, biodiversity and the future for coming generations, is focusing his attention on delivering more energy efficient and environmentally sensitive buildings. David is a MCIAT member, Passive House Designer and completed a Post Graduate Master in Sustainability and Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Industry from University of Jaen, Spain.
Chris Stewart
Director | Architect | Circular Economy Adviser | Passivhaus Designer
Chris leads the Collective Energy team in the field of Circular Economy and Deconstruction. He is the co-founding director of Collective Architecture and established the practice 23 years ago, based on principles of sustainability and participation. He is a key member of Scottish Ecological Design Association and the RIAS Sustainability Working Group.
Tom Warren
Architectural Technologist
Tom is a Chartered Architectural Technologist. He has expertise in sustainable construction methods and has lead the implementation of ‘Design for Circular Economies for Construction Professionals’, working with Zero Waste Scotland. Tom has excellent experience of technical issues regarding all aspects of the design process, including more complex retrofits and the integration of renewable technologies into buildings.
Fiona Welch
Architect | Passivhaus Designer
Fiona has been Project Architect for several large scale masterplans, housing developments and feasibility studies, most recently the Hamiltonhill Regeneration masterplan, comprising over 600 new build housing units utilising vacant land in north Glasgow. Previous projects include an Integrated Water Management Study for North Glasgow for Scottish Canals, a series of Integrated Urban Infrastructure Design Studies. Fiona is committed at every level to community, placemaking and environmental sustainability and is qualified in Passivhaus Design.
James York
Architect | Passivhaus Designer
James's expertise in sustainable design allows him to offer practical design solutions that minimise environmental impact, reduce energy consumption and enhance overall building performance and wellbeing. He has extensive experience in the design and delivery of conservation, retrofit & new build projects and has a keen interest in strategic planning to meet net zero carbon targets.
Tony Zanieri
Architectural Technologist | Passivhaus Designer
Tony is a passionate Certified Passive House Designer, who enjoys being part of a successful and productive team. He has expertise in sustainable construction methods and has lead the implementation of Collective Energy's ‘Detail Handbooks’. Tony has a keen interest in creating comfortable & health buildings for people to work, live & play in.
